On Tuesday, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the launch of the new Aadhaar app built on Face ID and AI in a post on X. As per the post, the app which is currently involved in beta testing will get rid of the need to carry an Aadhaar Card or photocopy it, as well; it allows you to get authenticated without giving a copy of the Aadhaar.

The new Aadhaar app will soon be available for both Android and iOS devices. The minister stated, “Now with just a tap, users can share only the necessary data, giving them complete control over their personal information on the New Aadhaar App in a beta testing phase.”

He further mentioned, “Aadhaar verification becomes as simple as making a UPI payment. Users can now digitally verify and share their Aadhaar details while ensuring their privacy,” on the X platform.

The user authenticates by scanning the QR code scanned by the vendor and confirming their identity using Face ID or a thumb scanner; the app does the rest. The app can be used to verify identity at hotel check-in, retail locations, and travel. The Aadhaar app has been reiterated as secure, and the user is in control, as only information shared with consent is shared, making it an entirely digital and secure solution.

The minister also noted that the new Aadhaar app would help prevent the misuse and leakage of Aadhaar details, as well as safeguard against forgery or tampering. Currently in the beta testing phase, the app is expected to be available for free download in the coming months.
